Flats Challenge Day 1

I actually started using flats yesterday because I didn't want to get stuck with a load of prefolds, which would be a little more challenging to wash and take longer to dry. I had to do my first load of handwashing tonight. I decided to try to be economical and reuse C's bath water. After she was done I put the diapers in the tub to soak while I was getting C ready for bed. That was approximately 45 minutes.

Yes, I have a pink bath tub. Not by choice it came with the house. There is also a matching sink and toilet.

Soaking Diapers

Before I took them to the basement to put in the laundry tub I opened up all the flats and swished them around.

I carried them to the basement in a purple bucket I picked up at TSC.

I ran the water to get it as hot as I could and then added my soap swishing it around with a wooden spoon. The wooden spoon has been promoted to the soul job of cleaning diapers. I also boiled a pot of water to add to the tub to make sure it was good and hot. I put the diapers in and swished them around. I left them to soak while I did other things and came back to swish some more. A couple more rounds of swish and soak and now they are just soaking.

It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so I may just let them soak overnight. Lucky for me there weren't any disgusting diapers in this round, but there will be some soon.
